Street Stories: Meet Shelly

For over 35 years Youth Emergency Services has offered a safe place for young people in crisis—the YES Shelter. Last year alone, more than 160 homeless and at-risk teens spent at least one night in our Omaha shelter.

The Youth Street Outreach Program began in 1999. Between 2008 and 2009, YES helped another 425 homeless and street dependent young people to find a safe place to stay, something to eat and supplies to get through a time of crisis. YES workers also guided those who needed special help to health and mental health providers, legal services and employment opportunities. Whatever at-risk young people needed, Youth Emergency Services was there to help.

In 2008, YES expanded its services to include a Maternity Group Home and Transitional Living Program. Both programs assist homeless and at-risk youth as they transition to living independently in the community.
