Dance for a Chance a Success!

9/2/2009

The first annual "Metro Stars Dance for a Chance" was a huge success! The event was similar to the television show, "Dancing with the Stars." Seven area stars received dance lessons from professional dance instructors at the DC Centre prior to performing with a partner at the fundraiser. After each star performed, Trev Alberts, UNO Athletic Director; Jeff Beals, Vice President of Coldwell Banker Commercial World Group; and Catherine Demes Maydew, Accounting Consultant scored the dancers. The audience decided the winner for the evening by voting for their favorite star.

The 2009 champion was Nick Bahe, former Creighton basketball player and Schick & Nick radio show host. The other performers for the evening included: Tom Becka, KFAB Radio Personality; Alex Henery, Husker football star; Sarah Hollins, Miss Teen Nebraska USA; Shari Stone, The Big 101.9 Air Personality; Amanda Mueller, KPTM News Anchor; and Bob Storey, YES Executive Director.

“Friday night was great,” said Ethel Williams, UNO School of Public Administration. “I can't remember when I had a better time.”

Special thanks to the event sponsors: American Courier, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Mutual of Omaha, Omaha Primary Eye Care, RJ Corman Railroad Group and Gary & Diane Taylor.

The event was held at the DC Centre on Friday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. The 200 attendees enjoyed hors d’oeuvres catered by the DC Centre. The $18,000 raised at the event went directly to help at-risk, runaway and homeless youth in our community.

"Oftentimes, homeless and at-risk teens cannot help themselves," said Amanda Mueller, KPTM. "This event gave me the opportunity to help troubled kids while taking part in a fun and exciting event."

The second annual event is planned for August 27, 2010. The plans have already begun for an even more exciting evening!
