Hunger Action Month: Food is More Than a Meal

September is Hunger Action Month—a time to raise awareness about food insecurity and take action to make sure everyone has access to the food they need.

For young people experiencing homelessness, food insecurity can look different than you might expect. It can mean skipping a meal so food will last a little longer. Choosing between groceries and gas. Relying on whatever food is available. Or having food but nowhere safe to store or prepare it.

At YES, we know that having reliable access to food is about more than filling an empty stomach. It’s one less thing a young person has to worry about while they're working toward stability, independence and a future of their own.

How You Can Help
There are lots of ways to help make sure young people have access to food when they need it.

Give to YES’ Meal Fund: A gift to our Meal Fund helps provide nutritious meals and food for young people experiencing homelessness.

Sign Up for Our Meal Calendar: Want to provide a meal directly? Sign up to prepare or provide a meal for youth staying at YES.

Host a Food Drive: Gather your coworkers, friends, family, faith community or neighborhood and collect much-needed nonperishable food items for YES.

Donate Canned Goods: Have a few extra items in your pantry? YES accepts donations of nonperishable food to help keep our shelves stocked. Unsure of what to donate? Check out our Pantry Bag Amazon Wishlist to donate goods online!

This Hunger Action Month, help us make sure young people have one less thing to worry about. Whether you give, provide a meal, host a food drive or simply share what you've learned, your action helps make food something young people can count on. Because food is more than a meal. It's part of stability. And together, we can help make sure every young person has access to it.
