Training for Independence | Youth Spotlight

After months of dedication in Youth Emergency Services’ (YES) Job Readiness Program, Riven achieved an important milestone: earning the credentials to begin her career as a pharmacy technician. But for Riven, this accomplishment is just the beginning.

At the heart of YES’ mission is equipping youth with the skills they need to thrive. The Job Readiness Program helps young people aged 16–24 explore career interests, pursue educational goals, and develop essential workplace skills—from interviews and resumes to professional behavior. Youth receive personalized guidance from YES’ on-staff Job Readiness Coordinator, as well as support from partners at area businesses and schools. The program even provides transportation to interviews, job fairs, training, and employment, removing barriers to success.

Now, Riven is putting her training to work while learning to thrive in independence through YES’ Transitional Living Program. Each day brings new challenges, from balancing work and personal responsibilities to navigating the steps toward self-sufficiency. Through it all, YES is there to guide her.

“YES has been my support system every step of the way,” Riven shares. “They’ve helped me build confidence and take on opportunities I didn’t think were possible.”

For young people like Riven, YES is more than an organization—it’s a steady light in uncertain times, a place of hope, stability, and opportunity. The skills, guidance, and encouragement she receives today will help her build a future of independence and success.
