From Kalisha’s Desk—May Edition

May marks Mental Health Awareness Month—a time dedicated to highlighting the importance of mental well-being and its role in maintaining good holistic health. This awareness campaign also works to expand access to mental health resources for individuals and communities in need.

At Youth Emergency Services (YES), we are proud to support a vulnerable population that is especially susceptible to mental health challenges. Every day, our team is committed to helping youth build the tools they need to support their mental wellness and long-term stability. In fact, the entire YES staff earned mental health first aid certification this past April as part of our dedication to championing positive mental health. In addition to this, YES is especially excited to welcome our new full-time mental health practitioner, Shylia, to help better meet the growing needs of the youth we serve.

Mental Health Awareness Month is also a powerful reminder to care for both our minds and bodies—through self-care, therapy, and open dialogue. Everyone on the YES staff prioritizes and promotes good mental health habits to not only improve our own lives but also to serve as examples for others, including the youth we support.

Together, let’s continue to foster a culture where mental health is valued, supported, and openly discussed—this month and every month.
