From Kalisha’s Desk—May Edition

May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a time to recognize the vital role mental well-being plays in overall health. It’s also an important opportunity to expand access to care and resources for individuals and communities who need them most.

At Youth Emergency Services (YES), we are honored to support young people who are especially vulnerable to mental health challenges. Each day, our team works alongside youth to help them build the tools they need for mental wellness and long-term stability. This commitment shows up in meaningful ways—from our entire staff earning Mental Health First Aid certification this past year to our Clinical Mental Health Practitioner Shy helping us meet the growing needs of the youth we serve.

This month is also a reminder to care for our own mental well-being—through self-care, connection, and open conversation. At YES, we strive to model and promote these practices, not only to strengthen our own well-being but to create a supportive environment for the young people in our care.

Together, we can continue building a culture where mental health is valued, supported, and openly discussed—this month and every month.
